Les Miserables
by
Victor Hugo

Some people talk about Les Miserables as incredibly long and sprawling and rather dull as a consequence, but I didn't think that at all, and it's hard to believe this book is 1300+ pages long.
Concise, heartbreaking and exciting, it's a work of genius.
The only reason I'm not giving it five stars (at the moment) is for reading it on the cusp of 30 and remembering so little about it.
I loathed Inspector Jalvert for relentlessly pursuing Jean Valjean and trying to make his and Cosette's life a misery, hence the title no doubt.
Maybe one day I'll read it again, you never know?
