My Ántonia

Although this narrative is lovingly crafted, gentle and very descriptive - the rolling plains and farmsteads of the American midwest interspersed with burgeoning cities - not a lot goes on and there's no discernable plot to this book.
That's not necessarily a criticism or downside, just an observation.
Unrequited love, physical attraction and burgeoning relationships aren't really enough to turn this book into a great read, although character development and the descriptions of life and hardships at the time are second to none. This is more like a memoir than a novel.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this beautiful literature, but I found it uncompelling, too sentimental and rather meandering.
