I went through a period in my early 20s when books by American authors such as Philip Roth and Saul Bellow were recommended and very attractive - on the road, changing perspectives, a sense of important existentialism - to then suddenly drop off the radar and disappear.

Life moves very fast and social narratives don't always keep pace, but I'm open to revisitations and perhaps a gander at [book:American Pastoral|11650] and [book:Portnoy’s Complaint|43945] at some point as a European living in South America with a growing interest and admiration of North American literature.

Hoping to one day give this a proper review.
