Two stars from me for two reasons:
One because I didn't enjoy it or understand it enough. If understanding is enjoyment then there you go.
Two, for my ignorance.
I give Shakespeare plays more than two stars after I've grown to love and appreciate them over the years, studied their contents and after reading them more than once.
This rating/review consists of personal notes to myself. That's about it.
This is my ninth survival of Shakespeare plays - six tragedies and three comedies - each time like going back to square one with a negative review.
I'm now wiser by the width of a quarter of a gnat's gonad.
I can't think of anything more favourable to say other than this rating may go up over time as I become more knowledgeable.
Reading a Shakespeare play for the first time is like being blind or an immense literary clutz.
You can't get a tan by sitting in the sun for 10 minutes, maybe a little bit burnt is all.
I enjoyed a few snippets though:
"He receives comfort like cold porridge."
A nice little rhyme:
"The Master, the Swabber, the Boatswain, and I, The gunner and his mate,
Loved Mall, Meg, and Marian, and Margery, but none of us car’d for Kate."
And:
"Monster, I do smell all horse-piss; at which my nose is in great indignation."
Just to prove that Shakespeare can swear.
