I enjoy Douglas Adams, full stop.
He's a genius of English humour and science fiction fantasy and [book:The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy|13] series has a special place in my heart as an Englishman through its silliness and intellectual gaffs.
Released in 1987 Dirk Gently's was a new direction for DA as Hitchhiker's became increasingly more tired as the fun wore on, and is just as fantastically bizarre, creative and thought provoking in a curiously well-explained and scientific way.
There are some genius English comedy authors out there such as P.G. Wodehouse and Roald Dahl who should never be forgotten due to their charming and irreverent tongue-in-cheek take on the world, and Douglas Adams is one of them.
Definitely worth a reread at some point to refresh my ailing memory.
