This book was my first foray into H.P. Lovecraft territory.
You know the story - weight of expectation and one of the most iconic horror books and authors of all time, but a bit of a letdown in the same way that first reads by Shakespeare can be, nor is this a particularly good introduction to Lovecraft or cosmic horror.
Rather boring, split up into three separate stories loosely related to the concept of an undecipherable terror called Cthulhu, coming after you like Moby Dick on steroids.
Three stars for historical reference and pretty atmospheric but disconnected tales, which are incongruous and rather hard to grasp.
Fortunately, there is better to come such as The Shadow over Innsmouth and The Dunwich Horror.
You still need to read it though, how can you not?
